VCU, Creighton open, close event with wins

Darius Theus scored his only three field goals of the game in the final 4:45 Friday night, accounting for all VCU’s points in a 7-2 run, and the Rams held on to beat Northern Iowa 77-68 in the opening game of the SEARS BracketBusters. In the final televised game on Saturday night, Creighton edged Long Beach State. Doug McDermott had 36 points and 11 rebounds and Antonie Young added 16 for the Bluejays (23-5).
